Hello WWIIF members... Glad to be here on the forum. Just signed up. Had done some forum browsing previously. Great info and discussions here. My name is Jesse Galloway, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I've been kicking around for 40 years. Right around the 39 mark, I started getting interested in designing my own game. I had a concept in my head that I wanted to invest time into and see through to completion. I'm a heavy equipment operator by trade but over the last year any free time I've had has gone into scratching notes, filling out spreadsheets and mostly googling. Googling everything. Game design, business stuff. There's a lot that goes into it as some probably know more than I do. And for me, without the background... it's been a lot of learning. But over the last year, this game, the concepts, mechanics, the military units, the process, the learning... I've thoroughly enjoyed it all. The game involves the usage of WW2 military units. So, of course my researching journey has lead me here. What I hope to achieve... 1. I'm looking for general information on tanks, planes and boats from WW2. Each unit will have rankings / skills and I'm hoping for help from this community in validating / correcting those rankings. I have typed out large threads for each of air, sea & land units (same thread) so I won't get into much more detail here. But I hope that you read over the posts, participate if you like. And if so I hope you enjoy the exercise. 2. My other goal is to find WW2 unit images. This is a secondary goal but I figured I'd bring it up. Although some artwork for the game is planned, I haven't acquired the images for the units. This could be photos that currently exist or I may even use an illustrator to create unique pieces. But I bring this up in case anyone has a link, or a suggestion, or knows a guy that knows a guy. What I can give in return... Gratitude. By the truck load. And maybe an enjoyable board game that you enjoy playing that you helped shape.
Welcome to the forum. Just let the forum know details about the game (theatre, specific locations, units, etc) that you would like to incorporate into your game. I know you mentioned a board game, can you give any more specifics?
Hey KJ, thanks for the welcome. I read this earlier in the day but had misplaced my password. Sorry for the delay. Very roughly.... The setting for the game is the year 20 and something. Let's call it 2050 just so it has a number. Post apocalyptic setting. Territory ownership / structure has reset. Players are competing to reclaim the land. Technology has reset. Players rediscover technology, which would be units from WW2. The specific location is planet Earth. And players battle for territories like they would when playing Risk. Although the fighting mechanics are totally different. The game will consist of 150 ww2 units. 50 warplanes, 50 warships (classes), and 50 tanks. I've posted more detail and listed the 50 planes in the Aircraft section of the forums. I will add add posts to the tank and ship forum sections in hopes of feedback as well. Anyone that can give any of the posts a read and lend some knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Welcome aboard. There is a yahoo group for professional gamers you might find it interesting. What level game are you interested in? Are you talking about moving individual men and vehicles or are you looking at units of some particular size?
Welcome to the forum. Are you considering aircraft carriers? They were kind of important in the Pacific.
