I am very interested in obtaining more Research Resources for the Second Soviet-Japanese War during 1935 - 1941.
This is a very interesting subject area, but not a lot of authoritative information has been published on the net in english as far as I can tell.

I would be happy to discover Russian or Japanese expert publications - and test Google Translate!
    Anyone?

Wikipedia has descent information to begin with dealing with the major battles included above as per:
The Soviet–Japanese border conflicts (also known as the Soviet-Japanese Border War) lasting from 1935 to 1939.
    - Soviet–Japanese border conflicts fought among the Soviet Union, Mongolia and the Empire of Japan

    [*]Minor clashes

[*]Kanchazu Island incident - June 1937

    [*]Battle of Lake Khasan
(also known as the Changkufeng Incident)

[*]Battles of Khalkhin Gol (Also spelled Halhin Gol or Khalkin Gol) May to August 1939
    _______

Interest spurred by these threads here:
    Two-Front War
    Japanese Army/Sino-Japanese War 'memoir'
    Second Sino Japanese War pics

Why is it called the second Soviet Japanese war? Are they referring to the post war occupations of various WWI allies as the first?

Amazon has a book that discusses the battles, based on what info there is. I know there are some Soviet records, but I don't know if there are much from the Japanese side

For your topic, look into Dr. Alvin Coox's researches and his books.

For understanding, the history of conflicts may be rooted in geopolitics than circumstances around ww2.

there are some books that cover the conflict, its not really a war, since no long term fighting resulted.
