Hi everyone - I work at the WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii - better known as the home of the USS Arizona. I'm guessing there must be a few people here who are specifically interested in Pearl Harbor and its history...? I am trying to create historical content for our website (information about all the ships on Battleship Row, all the major battle sites in the Pacific, etc). I could really use any help/suggestions on the page, as far as information you might be interested in, where to research for information to add, etc. Sadly most of the research I've been doing consists of google searches and (cringe) Wikipedia. I don't want to put any misinformation out there. We have hundreds of photos and bios of sailors and Marines, both those that survived the attack and the ones that died, and hope to post those to our website in the near future, as well. If you want to see the site, you can do a search for WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument. Then it's in the history and culture section. We also have some video projects coming up for the 75th commemoration this year, Dec 7. I'm not sure if anyone here would want to be involved in that, but we need volunteers (unfortunately not paying positions, but good experience and a great cause) to edit dozens of Pearl Harbor survivor oral history videos and turn them into video projects. That content will be used on our websites, app (in development), and maybe our museums. If you want more information, you can reach me here: rebecca_schwab@nps.gov. We have a facebook page, at WWIIValorNPS. Thanks in advance!
Welcome aboard Meliara, our esteemed member OpanaPointer is the go-to person here when seeking information regarding Pearl Harbor.
Who, me? Meliara, I have a few things you might find useful. The Pearl Harbor Attack Hearings 5,000+ pages of original documents and testimony related to the investigations into the attack on Pearl Harbor, 7 Dec., 1941. Pearl Harbor Operations: General Outline of Orders and Plans. Exhibits of the Joint Committee, Pt. 12, pp. 431-441 (The "Separate Volume" mentioned as having been destroyed in Japanese Monograph No. 97.) Photographic collections related to Pearl Harbor Pearl Harbor, 7:55 am, December 7, 1941 Map of Pearl Harbor. The Myths of Pearl Harbor A collection of files intended to correct some of the many misconceptions and myths about the Pearl Harbor Attack. Suggestions for further additions are requested! A chronological chart of the investigations from the "Dorn Report". A Chronological Collection of Documents Relating to the U.S. Entry Into WWII.
And the mother of all references for Pearl: http://www.ibiblio.org/pha/congress/ (The 40 volume Hearings.) (I have a index for that if you need help finding things in there.)
Quit holding out Opana. Welcome to the site Meliara. Hopefully a couple people here will assist your effort. Please keep us informed of your progress.
Welcome Meliara! For the Pacific War in general I think this is an excellent site for information, (Opana has Pearl Harbor covered). http://pwencycl.kgbudge.com/ If interested in Japanese Aircraft, Francillon's book, "Japanese Aircraft of WWII" is the gold standard. (They were slightly involved at PH) http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Aircraft-Pacific-Rene-Francillon/dp/087021313X/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1456878262&sr=8-6&keywords=francillon Here's an online site, Dave's Warbird's that is a good resource: http://www.daveswarbirds.com/Nippon/Japanese.htm And his companion covering US aircraft: http://www.daveswarbirds.com/usplanes/american.htm Japanese Naval subjects are very well covered over at "Combined Fleet": http://combinedfleet.com/kaigun.htm Individual naval weapons data is well covered at NavWeapons: http://www.navweaps.com/ I have tons more, but this should get you started.
Hi Meliara. Welcome to our home. I don't have anything to add to Price and Opana Pointer, but there is a wealth of general information out there. I would recommend anything by Hornfischer or Toll for general reading. Good luck. You've taken some good out of what was bad.
G'day and welcome. Not sure if this is the right place to come, it doesn't look like anyone is going to be able to give you any suggestions on where to look; Have a great time here, I know you will end up with more than you need (want). Mark
Welcome aboard. Another forum that's especially useful for pictures, analysis, and questions concerning Japanese ships and planes is j-aircraft.
Here's one thing I had done "a while back". The original is from the MacArthur brags Reports. I got a Quartermaster to add the locations of the two carriers based on their noon sitings taken from their deck logs in the Hearings.
