Hello, I am 15 and love military history. I recently discovered a US WW2 Canteen dated 1944 in my grandmother's basement. Funny, especially as we live in Canada. Also included was the khaki cover. It is filthy, covered in grime and dust as who knows how long it was down there. What are some ways to clean it? I tried just scrubbing it with a cloth and that doesn't work to well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rapencer91
Anything that doesn't come off with cloth and just a little bit of elbow grease I'd just leave on there. If you're planning on selling it, it's not going to increase in value if you clean it... quite the opposite, actually. But if you're going to keep it, and you're interested, I'm sure there are experts that could tell you what sorts of chemical cleaning agents are safe to use on it. But if it were me? I'd leave it as/is.
