    Hello,

A few months ago I started a Facebook page called "Military History Events Calendar." I did this because I had attended a fantastic military history conference that was poorly attended. I, myself, had only found out about the conference a few days before it occurred. It was then that I realized that there is no central place to find information about upcoming academic military history conferences, symposiums, lectures, as well as non-academic (public) living history events, and so on. So, I decided to do something about it. Thus, I have started an experiment to see if there is public interest in a Facebook page that provides information about military history events. It is an experiment because if there is little interest, then I will forget about the idea and delete the FB page.

This post is a call to action. I urge you 'like' the Military History Events Calendar FB page and increase its 'likes' to a level where event organizers will take notice and begin to post notice of their symposiums, conferences, etc. Currently, the page has only 180 or so likes. That is less than needed to call the experiment a success worth continuing. Second, if you know of an event, please let me know and I will post it to the FB page. I see a lot of events every week, but no there are so many others that I miss.

Now for the disclaimer - unfortunately, the page is focused on military history events only in the North America. There is no way it can adequately manage all the events it the world.

    Regards,
    Marc

Well done Marc, I'll be visiting.
I know you focus on the States, but I dare say others like myself will be able to mention dates for UK/other conferences "just for info" without anyone complaining.
    Again, great idea.

My impression is that the UK has about 5,000 interesting military history events every weekend, unfortunately most have something to do with the War of the Roses and only a Brit can make sense of that!

Lou - Thanks for the event info and link. I have posted it to the FB page.

    Regards,
    Marc

Not really, since that's mainly an English thing and not a national one.

Oh. Yet, another complication. English vice British; and here I sit with drinking coffee and munching an English muffin when I should be having tea and a British muffin!

My Facebook page - Military History Events - is still growing! As a result of my managing the page I have attended several interesting and informative events and met a lot of interesting people. I urge everyone to get out and support the academic symposiums and living history events near them. And take a friend too! Only through public participation can military history stay alive.

If you live in the US or Canada, I invite you to 'like' the Military History Events FB page and help it grow beyond 1,000 'likes." Then, put your books down and go out and see history in action (well, okay, that is a bit melodramatic).

BTW, the Military History Events page is a non-commercial entity.
