I picked this up today and it had the following information intact on the front:
    LT JAMES D. HARDY
    0-448702
    4584-L

What do these numbers mean? It also has leather handles intact.

Not sure if you can see the picture. I am looking for help finding information on this Lieutenant and his service as well as age of the box, what era is it from. Any help is much appreciated. Thank You!

Interesting item. My immediate instinct is post WW2, but don't hold me to that. Footlockers aren't my area of expertise.

Almost positive it's ww2 after some Google imagery searches. I googled the name and came up with a famous James D Hardy who was a doctor and was drafted as a lieutenant in the army... Trying to run what I think is the service number but coming up with nothing

4584 could be the APO, which a quick google search points to San Francisco.

I spotted it in a thrift store buried under a bunch of junk. It had an auction sticker on the bottom but that fell off, had the auctions house and lot number

My knee jerk is that it is not period WW2; the stencil is off and the black paint looks like a spray can, it looks more Vietnam / Korea era to me.

Also, the serial doesn't appear to correspond with normal WW2 serial/service numbers does it?

I've only searched ww2 for the service number with no hits
