You have defeated your own argument.

Winston Churchill became Prime Minister on the evening of 10th May 1940 and had no time to 'order' anything on the following day, as his private papers confirm ( viz. 'The Chuchill War Papers Volume 2', Heinemann 1994 ). he certainly had no influence over RAF policy before that date - he was First Lord of the Admiralty.

BTW, who is this 'Selwood' ?

What does a guy who writes about medieval history have to do with WW2? Googling the guy shows nothing WW2 related.

That is because you need much practice to improve your Google-Fu.

Schmuko, sorry, Selwood, wrote a one-off for "The Telegraph" bemoaning the bombing of Dresden.

Since, LJAd, has yet to understand how to cite sources, here you go.

IMHO, Selwoos should stick to ancient history & novels.

He also appears to love being controversial for the sheer hell of it-

The question was : WHO is Selwood, NOT : what was he writing in The Telegraph, thus my answer was correct .

Not sure how accurate it is, but.......I had always heard that some German Planes had "accidentally" bombed parts of Greater/Residential London during fog/being lost/not identifying intended target/mistaken land marks/etc etc...and that angry Brits very soon retaliated against Germany (Berlin) with bombing of Cities/Civilians.
Thus the beginning of "The Blitz".
I am not sure that who was "first" is (always) so important. By wars end, all combatants had crossed any type of moral boundaries that may have existed before Spain/Poland.
Kodiak Beer probably summed it up best....."Getting bombed is generally considered controversial by the people under those bombs. I'm sure the German people and press also considered allied bombing controversial".
What became WWII was one of the most horrific events ever to befall mankind. I am in no position to say who started what exactly. But i have no doubts that some of the guys that were "second" to do something, were only number two because another guy beat them to it, not because they necessarily were holding to any "higher ground".

No : The German air attacks on British cities started almost immediately after the French surrendered on june 22 1940.In july 1940 250 British civilians were killed by bombing .

How many have you read? Real book, not ones that need color crayons.

    One or two?

On september 1 1939 the LW attacked the Polish city of Wielun, result was that 1200 civilians died ( more than in Coventry ),this proves that in WWII Germany started the strategic air bombing .
