I was up hunting this week and saw some Ravens and a Magpie in the bush. We took a walk in to see what they were feeding on (thinking gut pile). When we got there we were very surprised to see a dead sow bear and 2 dead cubs. They had been covered up with some pine needles and grasses, but the head was sticking out on a couple as were there paws. You could see the imprint of a large paw on the ground where the ground was pulled back to put the cover on them. The bears were whole from what we could see, not even the eyes had yet been pecked out. We went back a couple of days later and both cubs were gone and the sow was pretty chewed up. What do you figure? In the picture you can see a stump they had been pulling apart to get at the bugs. KTK
Could have been a male bear trying to kill the cubs so he could mate. Then one thing led to another and ......
I think it was a grizzly. They feed on black bears whenever they can, and that's a typical grizzly 'cache.'
