Hello Bill, I suggest you ask on ww2talk. They are very familiar there with UK laws. I would suggest you rebury it since UK laws are so bad, but ask on http://www.ww2talk.com
I second Dave's suggestion. Based on what I know about UK gun laws, your only option is to turn it in to the police for destruction. You *may* be able to have it certified as deactivated (some welding/machining may be required) in which case you'd be able to keep it. Deactivated guns seems to be a big market in the UK.
I'd have thought that no matter what part of the world, if you dig up a gun in an area that isn't an old battlefield, you phone the old bill. The legit reasons for burying guns are possibly greatly outnumbered by the dodgy.
Watched a VICE show where a German citizen was accepting deactivated guns (on the dark net) in order to make them active again...Showed buddy in his shop doing what needed to be done. Then went out and shot the deactivated pistol...crazy
Hopefully they won't slap the cuffs on him. Never can tell what will happen with this 'Zero Tolerance' nonsense.
Still unsure what to do. I don't want the very rusty thing. I hate guns. I was just leveling out some ground. Going back in ground ? I don't want questions asked about it by police. Thanks for your replies.
Too bad it's going back in the ground. It would be interesting to see pix and determine the model and whether it is something from the WWII era. The Germans used a number of .380 and .32 Czech sidearms for police, railway guards and auxiliary of one kind of another. If it is a largish pistol, it might well be a Radom which is a very fine pistol indeed (or was before being buried for a number of years). The Radom was a single column 9mm pistol which superficially resembles a Hi-Power or 1911. These were front line pistols issued to German infantry just like the Luger or P-38.
Nobody innocent usually gets in trouble for the act of reporting stuff like this to Old Bill. However, if you're caught hiding it having not reported the thing, you're committing a serious crime. People have found themselves in real grief and lost their liberty for mucking about with firearms possession. Quite seriously, for maximum peace of mind: phone it in. Any other advice if you're in the UK is daft.
