If I was to ask people, name a beach of WW2, the majority would say "Omaha". On TV, Omaha Beach seems to get the most used. And PC games, Omha Beach would be on the game probably more than any other beach all together. Another thing is that on games like, MOH:AASH, there are way too many survivors, many people dare not even get out of the water and held onto the higgins boat! Those who did go out died. And it's a bit unrealistic finding half of the wave at the wiring. It's hard to believe to find even five there! And then the players are expected to crouch behind beach obstacles to get from one place to another. That is the most foolish of all! OK so I'd rather be standing behind one than in full glance, but, you'd be more likely to survive trying to run forward towards the bed where you can't be shot.
I agree Pvt. that's it's a bit overexaggerated but remember that the Allies did win that day and they did take the beach and that was done by living men that went over the beach and into enemy territory. So also take that into account as well. I also agree with you that unfortuanetly most people choose not to know the beaches and just know what the movies have depicted to be the most slaughter.
The only reason that the Allies won it was for certain individuals, leaders, who were brave enough to show an example and run forwards and some of them were as low as a Private First Class... And, in the movie Saving Pvt. Ryan Jackson owns all. He was also in We Were Solidiers as a reporter, he has to be my favourite actor.
