April 7, 1945, the first of German 'kamikaze ' attacks on Allied aircraft took place west of Hannover. Driven by desperation, the volunteer pilots in their ME-109s fired their cannons at point-blank range into a stream of American bombers and then ramming them. Twenty three bombers were destroyed this way and another 28 shot down by the escorting jet fighters during the air battle. Anon
Never heard of German Kamikaze before - I thought it was only the Japs that were that fanatical. Mind you, in this day and age, the world is full of Kamikaze (Suicide Bombers) so I guess anyone is capable of it.
This does not surprise me at all. There are many people back then that were willing to take actions such as this for whatever reason they were told to. It is sad to know that there was nothing the Americans could do as they were going to be killed at any cost. I cannot see why it would surprise anyone that Germans would do this considering back then there were countries that would not spend any time talking the the U.S.
