It gets worse. According to the book "Band of Brothers", on which the series was based, the tanks they faced were King Tigers...

Well, I guess ANY big German vehicle with a long gun was a Tiger or King Tiger to the Allies. Still, a StuG?????

Almost every first hand account of combat against the Geramns has the participants facing Tigers and all artillery pieces are 88's.
    Never trust "eye-witness" testimony.

Absolutely. And virtually every German fighter pilot shot down in the Battle of Britain claimed to have been shot down by a Spitfire, despite the fact that the Hurricane shot down twice as many...

Every war story does have the tendency to turn into a fish story after about 50 years.

As long as the thing was effective, I wouldn't care what it looked like.

Really. The cromwell was good enough in action, so it didn't have to look good or fancy :D

No, in Nuenen actually. Still this is complete nonsense, it probably was a Panther of 107th Pzbde that was used to counterattack the Corridor at Veghel.

And the RAF pilots who claimed to have shot down Heinkel He 112's - a fictional aeroplane!

Its an M4A1, or the Sherman II as it was known in British service. The M4A1 Firefly was refered to as the Sherman IIC.

how long is a firefly gun?

We never bothered to wonder how long it was!But I can assure you it was rather heavy to remove and replace in turret!
Anyway, as I intend to leave this Forum on my 100th. post, I give you an unpublished "TIGER" picture.
