The Americans. The British having the somewhat easier beaches (Juno, Sword etc.) While the Americans were left the task of Omaha and Utah. It was the American Rangers that disabled the guns at Pointe Du Hoc. Also the 101st and 82nd airborne that provided the support at Utah by sealing the Causeways controlled by the Nazis. Not to mention them taking German towns behind the beaches (Carentan, Foy etc.) Also I beleive it was American Bombs that softened up the beaches.

Perhaps it should be mentioned that 946 aircraft of RAF Bomber Command dropped 5,000 tons of bombs on the Normandy defences during 5/6 June, 1944....

That may upset Canadian forum members....it might be hair-splitting, but 14,000 Canadian troops assaulted Juno Beach on D-Day against strong opposition, and by the end of the day had advanced further into Normandy than any other Division.

Like said before this was a co-operation not separate troops trying to win the war. Actually this is what the Germans would have wanted to happen the Allied starting to quarrel between themselves who was better...

    Martyrdom is an empty purse;
    Count it...go broke.
    Eat it.....go hungry.
    Seek it....go mad.

    Martyrs...rule from the Tomb.

SE everything you state indicates a great lack of historical knowledge and simple 'boy's-own' rhetoric from the American view, probably Speilberg.

    No.
An attempt to dissuade the previous comments about portraying death, suicide, and martyrdom as being something "more" than stupid.
If I strike a nerve by using someone elses words, that at least proves it's not my opinion alone.
Any country/religion/one who embraces this "terrorism" is last gasp desperate.
Especially to use women & children to throw their lives away for that empty purse.
    If you disagree...fine...free country.
I don't like anything Speilberg does.
    Everything? wow
Do you have me under satellite surveillance?
How many fingers am I holding up?

"The Americans. The British having the somewhat easier beaches (Juno, Sword etc.) While the Americans were left the task of Omaha and Utah."

As far as casualties go, Utah was by far the "easiest" beach to secure.

"Also the 101st and 82nd airborne that provided the support at Utah by sealing the Causeways controlled by the Nazis."

The British/Canadian airborne provided support on the right flank. Their task was no "easier" than the boys who landed in the west.

"Not to mention them taking German towns behind the beaches (Carentan, Foy etc.)"

I suspect your information was obtained from Band of Brothers, as "Foy" was a battle in the Ardennes offensive and was no where near the Normandy beachhead.

    Nice site there Erik.

Good stuff on the production output in Canada. The ammount of vehicles was beyond what I had thought.
