    Hi!

I'm about to make a onlinegame which will take place under the world war 2. In the game it will be possible to buy tanks, so now I wonder which ones is the most famous one from the countries: Germany, Italy, Japan, Great Britan, France, Soviet, USA

I will really appreciate your help!

    Thanks in advance!
(saying hello from Sweden :p )

Greetings. Most famous? Well, Germany it's the Tiger, U.S.A the Sherman, Soviet Union the T34. Britain could be anything (nothing stands out above all others as far as 'fame' is concerned but I would say the Churchill). As for France and Italy etc then I don't know of any tanks from those countries which were 'famous' in WW2. :smok:

If you want to know which was the best or most effective tank from each country then you'll get different answers.

France would be the Char B or the Souma.

    Italy?
Well, it didn't matter, they were all a wee bit useless...!

Welcome to the forum warpi! Good luck at making your game work. As for the famous tanks, Lyndon supplied most. You might want to consider the Panther as the most famous German tank; it was much more advanced and more of them were built than the Tiger.

For Italy, you need the Carro Armato M15/42. It sucked, but it was the best they had...
Japan's most famous and most common tank was the Light Tank Chi-Ha Type 97.
Britain, the Churchill or the Cromwell (I don't know which is the most common). If you want to make it easy on yourself, the British also recieved a lot of American Shermans to fight with so you could make the two nations have identical tanks. :D
For France I'd take the Char B1 Bis. It's defintely the most famous.
Soviets, the T34 is the obvious choice; they made about 60,000 of them during the war...

I believe the most common British tank ( in numbers ) was the Valentine. But for the most famous one I would choose the Churchill.

    A tentative 'definative list':

    France: Char B1
    Germany: Tiger
    Italy: Carro Armato M15/42
    Japan: Chi-Ha Type 97
    UK: Churchill
    USA: Sherman
    USSR: T-34

I should stress again that these are the most famous tanks, not the best...

The Cromwell served as the standard in the British armed forces, replacing the Sherman wherever it could.

    Hi!

I really appreciate your fast replys! I didn't know that this forum was that active, really nice to se!

When I'm thinking about it, it would be nice to have more than one tank to buy with each country so I was thinking if it's possible to find about 5 tanks from each country.

The games variables is cost (the amount of money if cost in that period of time and in the currency used by the country), damage (damage able to other units: good, medium, poor), life (how good armor it had: good, medium, poor) and what it is able to attack (infantery, buildings, tanks, seaunits and airplanes)

So in other words it would be really nice if it's possible to maybe find out some different famous tanks from each country which was used to shoot infantery, tanks, airplanes.

I know that this might be a lot of work to find out, but it is very important to make the game realistic and fun to play.

    So far the list is:

    Germany
    - Tiger (cost: ?, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)
    - Panther (cost: ?, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)

    Japan
Light Tank Chi-Ha Type 97 (cost: ?, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)

    Great Britain
Churchill (cost: ? pounds, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)
Cromwell (cost: ? pounds, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)
Shermans (cost: ? pounds, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)
Valentine (cost: ? pounds, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)

    Soviet
    T34 (cost: ?, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)

    USA
Sherman (cost: ? dollars, damage: ?, life: ?, attack: tanks)

I have removed France and Italy from the game because they seemed not to be enough good to be one of the selectable country.

Just about all tanks had different versions to fill different rolls. For example, the Sherman had a version equiped with a 76mm gun that would be used to combat enemy tanks, and a 105mm equiped version used to dispatch infantry. The Sherman you hear about on the history channel was the 75mm equiped sherman, the most common and the worst of both worlds.

Okay, I understand. Humm. Then maybe I should specify even more what I really want :)

Atleast one tank from each country that suits this needs. Shoot Infantery, Air and Tanks. If there is several famous ones then that is okey, aslong there is not more than 5-6 tanks per country.

I hope it's not to much of work :p

5-6 tanks per nation is really limiting yourself.

Hum.... Maybe historical, but there will be so many other things to in the game so having more than 5-6 tanks, might be more than enough.

But we could do like this instead. I could make the list, and then when I have some specific other questions, you might could help me.

    *Working up a list now*

Actually, that's interesting - did the Americans ever use the 17pdr?

In Feb 1945, after the Ardennes fighting, it was decided to restart an earlier project to arm US M4s with the 17pdr. 100 were completed by May 7, 1945, with 20 going to the British as lend lease. The 80 completed for the US Army never entered service.

To qoute Danyel's short answer, no.
