Gebirgsjagern. Alpine Elite.

I have been asked to print pictures from the booklet I mentioned in the "Operation Market Garden"subject, it came from the Gebirgsjager Barracks in Innsbruck in 45.The front cover and inside page I have already posted so will attempt to produce a few pics. per day until completed.It follows the adventures of "Toni" a young Jager recruit through Europe, the book finishes in 1941 with a picture of a "Christmas Bunker", after that I don't think there was much time for cartoon books.

I thinking that best Gebirgsjäger divison was SS Prinz Eugen. But I Don't know why they went to Mount Elbrus. It was very unimportant.

Glad you are enjoying it, good translation Roel, you will struggle with some words and expressions because they are Army slang, not only that but also unit slang.Quite a unique booklet, could make a packet on ebay!!!Please, don't let us get into a discussion about which was the best Alpine

Thanks! I'm enjoying this very much, and the few expressions I miss (like those of hanged black soldiers) can't spoil it! I will correct some things in the previous post, I seem to have missed a verse too.

It's a poem and the original also has rhyme. I try to keep at least some of the rhythm, but English is very different from German so it's hard to do so.

Here's the Saturday three.

Thank you tankpark, I enjoy the challenge. Hope I'm not disappointing Ricky though, who asked for the translation. I only know this one line of British slang, from Band of Brothers: "You must be taking a bath if you think you're half-inching that!" (supposed to mean "you're insane to think you can steal that" or something...) :lol:
