This is a topic which interests me a lot: the aproximate number of tanks produced by Germany during the war, cause every single book says something different, so I beg you to help me with this matter and get to the most exact number. The numbers I trust in: Panzer IV in all versions: about 10,000, 8,000 of them consisting of the "long" versions. Panzer V "Panther": 8,000, 800 of them modified to Jadgpanther. Panzer VI "Tiger": 1,300. Almost everybody agrees with this number. Panzer VI B "Konigstiger": less than 500. According to Osprey, they were 482. So, you will tell me if I am right or wrong. Bye!
The Panther had no more than 5000 units of it made during the war. Maybe the 800 Jagdpanthers are added to that but still one wouldn't reach 8000. I believe there were about 3000 PanzerIIIs made during the early war years, but a staggering 12000 StuGs III and IV on the chassis of the Panzer III and later the Panzer IV. This was actually the most numerous German tank of the war.
Here is a web site that has production by type and year. It's a web site so no accounting for its accuracy: http://www.fact-index.com/g/ge/german_t ... ar_ii.html :smok:
according with my books: Pz IV 8594 (ibcluding short barreled gun) Pz V 5976 Pz VI 1354 Pz VIb 489 this is for tanks only
These are the correct production numbers: Pz.Kpfw. IV: 8,521* Pz.Kpfw. Panther: 5,987* Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. E: 1,349** Pz.Kpfw. Tiger Ausf. B: 492** *) Production for April 1945 in unknown **) Includes prototypes Furthermore, 417 schwere Panzerjäger V 'Jagdpanther' were manufactured.
I didn't include those on purpose, as they weren't mentioned in the original post, however: Pz.Kpfw. I: 1,475 Pz.Kpfw. II: 1,756 Pz.Kpfw. 35(t) (including captured vehicles): 202 Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) (including captured vehicles): 1,413 Pz.Kpfw. III: 5,670
Nice site, Gregg Christian, very nice stats you gave there. just out of curiousity: Where did you get this precise info?
Panzer Truppen 1 and 2 - it has the monthly production of all vehicles from 1939 to 1945, including how many were rebuild and how many were in service for each month.
Ok smarty pants, thats all of you with the production numbers. How many captured T-34 and other types of Russian or Allied tanks did the Germans use in their forces. Answer this and I 'll be impressed!
Listing the exact number of captured equipment would be very difficult, if not impossible, as it would require looking through all strength reports ever made from 1939 to 1945. The total number wasn't very significant, tough, compared to the number of German-produced tanks. Christian
My book on captured Soviet tanks only offers tantilising glimpses... for example: in May 1943 there were 63 Soviet tanks in German service (including 50 T-34s) in December 1944 there were 53 Soviet tanks (49 T-34s) These figures come from the official 'Captured Tank Situation' reports, and the book acknowledges that these will be rather incomplete... Then we have the rather more vague: The Armoued Pursuit Detachment 2 of SS Das Reich was equipped with T-34s produced in the captured tank factory at Kharkov. And the ultimate: No more than 300 captured Rsian battle tanks were in German service at any one time. All from 'Captured Tanks Under the German Flag: Russian Batle Tanks' by Dr Werner Regenburg & Horst Scheibert, from Schiffer Military. In all fairness it is a book for modellers, and has more pictures than text.
"I´ve got to have these books", I thought to myself, and looked them up at a webshop. Then I noticed the price.
Where did they go? Interesting. How many Tiger 1's still exist? I saw the Bovington one Is the final fate of all Tigers known? If not, how many are unaccounted for :-?
I have heard that the last (54?) Tiger 1's were not fully new, but rebuilt older ones. Is this true? Also heard that some tanks, including a Tiger, have been 'dug up' in Russia. Can anyone confirm this? :-?
There is a Tiger 1 at Bovingdon - it was captured during the war - I believe they are trying to restore it to running condition. I drove past The Tank Museum yesterday, on my way back from a wedding in Weymouth. Sadly we did not have time to go in (and my girlfriend would have been bored senseless...)
Bovington It had a terrible misfire when I saw it, but impressive nevertheless. I believe they are only allowed to restore it, not to just replace parts with newer parts. No Tiger EFI
Now here's one for you info buffs, I am sure there may be one or two to say this nation never had any German WW II tanks after WWII but then that would be such a travesty of the facts. How many German tanks did Syria have and what types. Hint there were no spare parts and the Isrealies fought them. Gee why don't I just give it away.
