Split from "Nose Art" It always makes me wonder when I see all those scarcely dressed women on planes, why you don't see this much on tanks, too? I mean, in most units men were given the same freedom to express themselves on their vehicles, but this hardly ever resulted in these spicy pictures, AFAIK.
nose art. maybe because planes lasted longer than tanks in action! Apart from a name, usually beginning with letter ob Squadron, eg. A Sqd. Ajax, Alice, etc. BB Sqd. Barsia, Bug Bug etc, Csqd. Clara, Crewe. some Australian tanks had kangeroos on them. Also probably tank crews had to fight, maintain, feed, guard, look after themselves without support crews., spare time (if any) you got your head down.
Plus, I think, it is not wise to attract any attention to your tank. Barely-clothed women always attract attention...
Not much This is as far as it got with German tanks. Painting the names Wilma and Paula on. 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitlerjugend). Normandy 1944. This seems to have been popular with the young lads of this division as many tanks sported girlfriend's names all over them. Not the same thing I know but still......
nose art not exactly Nose Art but quite an interesting picture, a death plaque on a Panzer4, in memory of a crew member killed in action. Not a very good copy I'm afraid but have never seen anything like it before.
nose art? upon reflection, I suppose the picture above should really have been placed in the "Emblems on Tanks" page.
I have my doubts about this pic, look closely and you will notice that the plaque do not porject any shadow, even the bolts porject their own shadow, why the plaque lack it?
nose art well I must admit on the original picture it did say the plaque was painted on.I just thought it looked too good for a paint job. Nice bino's though!
It looks as though the plaque was attached to the tank and the applique armour has had a bit cut out to fit round it...
nose art Fiendishly clever these Germans(especially the ww2 variety!) Genuine photo, I didn't fake it!
