It is what happens in the extended version, yes. I would have prefered it if they had done the Scouring of the Shire instead, though.

Is the extended version worth purchasing if you already have the theatrical release?

It depends on how expensive extended version is and how big fan you are. Remember that those extended versions have 2 discs of extras and I believe they are really worth watching.

Plus they have a longer version of the film, with a fair few scenes that never got to the cinema.

(Which is what 'Extended Version' means. Sorry, I'm having a dumb moment  )

I'm obviously a big fan.I'll probably get it eventually. It just irritates me how they re-release movies, giving you a bit more the second time around.

Yes, that is a bit annoying. Thought 'Fellowship of the Ring' EE (Extended Edition) came out mere half year after theatrical version, therefore everyone knew to wait for EE's on TTT and ROTK.
Today those extended editions are quite cheap, here in Finland you could get all 3 in mere 48€ or less (they cost around 40€ when first released). And www.play.com has that TTT collectors edition whatever in 10£.

Well, either I haven't seen the extended version or I forgot about that ending, because all I remember was that they left Saruman in his tower as Gandalf remarked that he was no longer a threat.

I guess you even beat me when it comes to the movies. The forum is yours...

Why did everybody panic when it clouded over on Wednesday?

(Slightly cryptic, but nothing out of your leagues, I'm sure)

    Nope

    Nope, not that either

When I say 'clouded over' I take the quote directly from the book. Tolkien is referring to the weather getting worse.

I have a hint if it is required.

    Correct, your turn.

The Fellowship, as Ricky's answer gave away.
