Hi, im currently new to the site. I used to go here quite often but unfortunatly i have been side-tracked for awhile. Anyway my question is in regards to panzer divisions and their troop counts. Could anyone tell me approxamately how many men and armor served in a typical armored division? I have read that theoretically a division was between 10,000 to 20,000 men in the german heer. But i imagined that panzer battalions and regiments within the overall division would have a different number of tanks and men than a typical infantry regiment/battlion/division. If anyone could answer me it would be much appreciated. thanks
German division organizations of all types varied considerably and several TO&E tables could exist at the same time, few ever being achieved in the field. And of course the divisions evolved considerably over the course of the war. German 1939 Infantry Divsion = 17200 Officiers and men 1944 Inf Div = 12352, 14 StuG/panzer-jager 1944/5 Volksgrenadier Div = 10072, 14 StuG/panzer-jager 1939 Panzer Div = 11800, 335 tanks (including large numbers of Pz I & II) 1941 Panzer Div = 15600, 200 tanks 1944 Panzer Div = 13725, 103 tanks, 31 StuG/panzer-jager 1944 SS Pz Div = 17262, 126 tanks, 53 StuG/panzer-jager 1944 Panzer Grenadier Div = 13876, 48 tanks, 31 StuG/panzer-jager 1944 SS PzG Div = 15000, 48 tanks, 31 StuG/panzer-jager 1944 Luftaffe FJ Div = 15976 1944 LW Field Div = 12500
