Actually rbagen, the rank system wasn't made so that people could boast about their rank and feel superior to others because of it. However, there is no real rule against just boasting... :D

rbagen, you don't honestly believe that by posting (for example) ten posts or more a day in "three word story", promotion is hard earned?
As has been pointed out many times there is no point in posting just to obtain promotion, intelligent postings will gain you respect, that is far more important. People will look forward to your comments.

Post count does not equal penis size, bottom line.

As long as your comments are all intelligent and valuable (or entertaining), the rank will get its meaning of the higher the better again, except that it won't be a game of numbers but of quantity with a guaranteed quality.

Well, I tried to get people to salute me, but that Roel kept countermanding my orders! :D
    Ah dear...

Yes, rank is fairly meaningless on here. For example, I vastly outrank Patrice, but I know which of us has the better knowledge...
I simply log on more, and blather more. And I've been here longer.

(apologies for using you as an example Patrice, but I was complimentary about you! :D )

    Still, it's fun... ;)

Hm, I think it may have some use to discuss the value of ranks on this forum, so I won't be the one to remove it...

there are only eight votes from 244 registered members so this topic can not be considered very important, as Ricky said " rank on this Forum is meaningless" so why bother with it?
When we speak of "banning this topic" are we talking of this particular thread or of banning ranking.?
Or perhaps some people consider a high rank as part of an ego trip, I personally find it rather amusing, I suppose it's ok until people start believing it!
In my own opinion "Micky Mouse" ranks are the same as "Micky Mouse" medals that you can purchase anywhere, not much value.

I think that (as Merlin has said) that ranks are useless as a hierachy system. HOWEVER they are quite good fun, and generally you see an elder, when he is of a higher rank that you. But I still think that it is pointless to post too much.

The idea is that the sidepic comes with the rank. As in, you can call yourself a general but without some stars on your shirt you simply can't make anyone believe it. ;)

    I would rather be

    MENTOK THE MIND-TAKER
    [IMG]

    than a General.
