    Harder one this time.

What is the link between this ship and a vessel that has already been mentioned in this theme?

    Russian Rurik from 1890's.
Link is to British PC's Terrible and Powerful, as they were built to match Rurik.

and it was subsequently realised that they were a bit over the top.

Hmm okay what can we see.

    Single forward turret.

Clear signs of one possibly two sets of wing turrets

    Very low in the water.

That would narrow the field to a couple of classes of German WW1 battleships but SMS Nassau is the only one that I can think of that ever took significant damage ( when HMS Spitfire took a lump out of her )

SMS Nassau but I am not that confident of my answer.

Well, your first guess was closer than this latter one. It is a certain German ship after Jutland but not VdT.

Argh! At this rate I going to end up cycling through the entire German order of battle!

I was thinking Seydlitz but if anything the damage does't bad enough
I'll go for the battlecruiser Moltke

It does look like a type 22 and the land does look like the Falklands and I'm sure I have seen this picture before.
