Well, that wasn't what I was looking for. Besides, it doesn't have much to do German U-boats and Das Boot. This was apparently harder than I thought so I'll give the answer: 18th april 1986 Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock died. Lehmann-Willenbrock was 6th most successful German U-boat captain but he is most famous of being the captain of U-96 when war correspondent Lothar-Günther Buchheim (author of book Das Boot) accompanied U-96 on her seventh patrol.
I think its not so well known but luckily I'm currently reading Massie's Dreadnought and there I remembered this.
Since nobody asked, what is context between german subs (a special one) and all Rolls Royce cars from then and now ? Regards, Che.
Eleanor Thornton, the model for the "winged victory" statue on each RR car, was torpedoed OK, technically the ship she was on was torpedoed, but you get the general idea. I suppose you want the U-number?
I guess you know it as well. I found the story quite interessting if you consider that this car of our everyday-life represent a victim of the german submarine warfare. The SS Persia was located off Crete in 2003 at a depth of 10,000 feet (3,000 m) and is quite remarkable intact. In a naval Qiuz ?! Regards, Che.
Ouch -- Merlin, that was awful, even for you! As your pun-ishment, write out "She was only the admiral's daughter.." 100 times! Back to the quiz -- I presume my answer was OK What was the significant achievement of USS Lapon?
