Hello Scaramouche, Roel told me that you were looking for our Tiger II pics we took at La Gleize. I don't know in what section that was, so I'll just post them here so that they're easy to find.

Hya Panzeprofile: Many thankls for the pictures which l am really glad to see.l was looking in my archives for some pictures my friend took at Aberdeen-including one taken from the back, as one of yours is, but with a human figure for comparison-a fellow who's 6 ft. 3 inches in height.and the tail end of the Tiger loomed above his head for al least a foot..Many thanks again for sharing these beautiful pics!

Unfortunately it is far from to be complete me 262, it was sabotaged by Germans at the time of their departure of Gleize. It there also a small something of odd on this KT.
But nice photos.

Look at the front plate, you will see impacts of rounds of several calibres there. The side turned away from the camera, facing the bushes, is covered with .50 cal impacts; on the glacis there are several more. There is definitely battle damage on this tank!

I will scan a picture of how this tank was found in 1945 later on. The front half of the barrel was missing, and the suspension was largely incomplete. The barrel was later fitted with a muzzle brake belonging to a Panther's 75mm gun, which could make the barrel look a bit odd.

 

Here we go. Compare this to the restored version on display today!

Normally this tank was to be evacuated with all the others given up by Peiper, this one, the "213" amongst other things had its gun damaged.
This Tiger B will be saved by Mrs Jenny Geenen Dewez who bought it with American charged with cut out.
The price... a brandy bottle of the country.
There will remain six years on the place of the village before being moved by the troops of the Belgian Army engineers in August 1951 in the place or he is still.
The gun will be repaired in 1972, but without muzzel brake of 88mm.
As it was impossible to found one,have put at the place a muzzel brake of Panther,and more, this muzzel brake comes from one of the Panther-M10 of the Panzerbrigade 150.
When can look at this tank of close, have realize that the armour-plates above the tracks were damaged by an internal explosion.
So a funny but true story.

It looks like this picture was taken even before the lady bought it. It does not resemble the position of this tank on any picture I have seen of it taken later. By the way, Patrice, I believe this tank was moved twice, since many pictures feature it standing next to a road with grassland around it but this was not where it was when the pictures PP posted were taken.

I see it now. Yes, my picture must have been taken before the restoration but after the tank was moved. Trees and bushes now hide the fields I mention from sight; also, the museum seen in the background is quite recent.

 

i don't know you or the others, but the kt is a lovely beast

This photograph does not come of La Gleize, it shows a Tiger IIB of the s.Pz-Abt 501 abandoned A Jemappes on the main road (September 1944).

I visited this giant several times, it really is a big MF when you stand next to it!
The damage on the glacis plate is quite astonishing to see up close. several hits by bazookas - it seems the americans used it for target practice. none of these penetrated the front. one of them made a real impressive scar, as it was more or less deflected upwards. Do you have any pics of those?

Last month, the Belgian tv aired some documentaries about the ardennes-ofensive, since it has been 60 years. The tank was featured in one of these, complete with some old footage when it was captured by G.I.s...

 

The muzzle brake mentioned above: the 75 mm Panther one. It fits wonderfully, though.
