    Lord Halifax visited Hitler in his masion, Berghof, in 1938. To enter Berghof one had to, after leaving the car, climb up quite steep and high stairs. Due to that while walking up you could not see what was at the top unless you raised your head very high.

    This fact almost caused Halifax to make a terrible diplomatic faux pas. Only Halifax' assistant's quick reaction prevented it. What would that faux-pas be, what did Halifax want to do?

    (It was off course actually used in hospitals, this was an alternative use that was considered...)
