I'm doing a research project on tanks in world war II. I'm having trouble finding some details on the tactics used with tanks during this war. Could you post some links with useful information and help me out?

    tank tactics

As an old tanker who read extensively in both american and German sources and as a trained historian, I would say that you have a huge topic. Do yourself a favor and narrow it down as much as your prof will allow. For example, you might focus on German tactics. In that case, you could start with Guderian, Mellinthin (sp. ?) and a host of others. You might also limit the size of unit studied - platoon, company, etc. Or you might focus on operational levels - panzer corps and panzer armee. Best of luck.

    phip is right

the subject is just too big for one paper. you have to narrow it down to something managable. try something like how the limits and strong points of the sherman dictated the tactics used by its crews. or perhaps the effect terrain had on tank tactics. or the advent of radio commo gear at different unit levels. tank tactics in urban areas is still widely misunderstood and underreported. perhaps a paper on the interaction between tanks and special antitank foot troops like the russians used or how weapons like the panzerfaust and the bazooka changed tank tactics. just some ideas off the top of my head. as noted before you have found a good resource here.

Whoa guys, I think you might be overestimating mr. Jordantank's level of work - I can't know for certain, of course, but it seems to me like he's doing a school project for which scope really doesn't matter since you can summarize all you want. Haven't you once written a paper on "Volcanoes", "Airplanes" or "Dinosaurs" once? ;)

Right you are. While I COULD go into depth, it wouldn't get me a higher grade. It's a small project actually, so I plan to keep it somewhat general. Thanks for your information though!
