Germany - Mark IV - A good all round design which remained upgradable and viable through the entire war. Russia - T-34. Again a good medium tank, reliable, sufficant armour, reasonable gun which was introduced quite early and continued to be used and upgraded. Allies - well, frankly most of their tanks were either generally pretty poor, had quite bad singular failings or were introduced quite late around 44/45. Therefore I wouldn't like to say. But if I did have to, probably the old workhorse Sherman. Any tank introduced in 44 or later has a significant advantage over the others and as such will often tower over the earlier tanks just through the change in the needs of a tank and the experiance of the makers. Most of the heavy tanks like the ISU or Tiger whilst being very good cost to much in resources in comparrison to their medium cousins. They were also used in much fewer numbers to significantly effect the whole war. FNG
Best tanks well id agree with Roel look at them sites but hers my list USA -Sherman Britain - Crocidile france - who am i kidding Germany  - Mark 5 Panther Russia :smok: - T-34/85
The French Somua S35 and B1 tanks were better than anything the Germans had at the time. Of course, like FNG already mentioned, these were simply way outclassed by later developments but this doesn't mean they weren't good tanks in 1940. Otherwise the T34 wouldn't win any best tanks debate, since only in 1941-1942 was it actually the best tank of anything.
The T34 was still a very good medium tank in 1945. The 39 version of the mark IV would be useless in 45. The problem is that most of the tanks were upgunned and provided with better protection as time went on. Also tanks entering in 43 or later had the advantage of seeing 4 years of warfare and what is needed in a vehicle. Therefore they have an advantage. FNG
However the MkIV was still at least an effective tank in 1945 (Although not up in most people's top 10s), equally I'm pretty sure the entry-model T-34 would be completely outclassed by 1945...
thats it, you have to look at each tank as it was produced in each year. The mark IV was in each of the 6 years a solid medium tank, even in 45. The T-34 came out in 40? Again a solid tank in each year of production. FNG
