Obviously I'm very bored.I was just wondering if any of you guys dig pizza.Food of the gods as far as I'm concerned.
Yep, good pizza is definitely tasty. I made pizza last sunday; ham, pineapple and mushroom. Quite good. Swap mushroom with pepperoni and you get the food of gods.
I've heard numerous times that the farther you get from Chicago, the worse the pizza gets.In my meager experience, this has proven to be the case.I'm referring to real pizza restaurants, not chains like Pizza Hut or Domino's.What do you guys have on your side of the big pond?
On a bicycle trip that ended for the night in LaSalle Illinois,we stayed at a hotel.I asked the attendant what were the BEST pizza joints that delivered. He told me Pizza Hut and Pappa John's.He seemed to get a little annoyed when I started laughing and asked if he was kidding. On our trip to Washington D.C. and Aberdeen Proving Grounds last year,we stayed at the Hyatt in Crystal City Virginia. We ordered from a place that offered an EXTRA LARGE pizza. When it arrived and we opened the box, laughter ensued. In Chi-Town,this EXTRA LARGE pizza would have qualified as a MEDIUM at best. We're are a bit arrogant about our pizza in Chicago. :smok:
My favorite place for pizza is a specialty shop called the Mellow Mushroom. They'll make pizzas in most any way and fashion you want. They are a bit more expensive than the chain places but it's well worth it. My favorite is Chicago style with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, mushrooms, and extra cheese. I save the end pieces and warm them up in a small oven later. Then I melt some garlic butter and add parmesan cheese for a killer snack!
I love pizza. SturmTiger, Isn't it "The further you get from Italy, the worse the pizza"? Or are there that many Italians in Chicago.
Actually,I believe pizza is an American invention with an Italian flair. I could be wrong.I only claim to be an expert in eating them.
As far as I know, pizza is really an italian invention. They made a bread, put all leftovers from yesterday's dinners on it, add some cheese and put it to oven for a while. SturmTiger, I thought Chicago is full of Poles, not italians? Thought here in my hometown, great majority of all pizzerias are owned by turks. There are some not very nice nicknames to these pizzerias.
I spent 5 years working at Pizza Hut... Yes, I love Pizza. I actually really like the deep base that Pizza Hut do (5 years of lunch breaks gets you the taste, I suppose!), but the best pizza I eat is the ones I make myself. When I was in America last, I was given a Pizza from what was apparently the best Pizza place in New Jersey. It was not all that nice. It had so much cheese on that the base had collapsed and gone soggy. :x Oh, and Simon - Anchovies????
i never liked pizza... it maybe to do with the fact that i dont like cheese! i prefer an indian takeaway mmm
pizza we have a small shop here in town that makes a steak pizza. steak, onions, peppers, cheese, and A-1 instead of tomato sauce. wonderful!
A few places here are starting to make Mexican style pizza.Pretty damn good.Another place had pizza with barbecue sauce.I never tried that one but heard it was good. That steak pizza sounds like a winner.
