It is well known that the Kurds are not anti-semites, and that jewish Kurdish friendship goes back far. It is also well known that Israel directly supported the Kurds in the past, and that Mustafa Barzani, father of the current head of Southern Kurdistan visited Israel, and recieved a lot of sympathy and that elite Israeli officers and Mossad agents were dispatched to Northern Iraq/Southern Kurdistan to train, equipt, and lead the Persch Merga and Kurdish agents. However it is also known that when Iran closed it's borders to Israel and the Kurds were defeated by the Iraqis the relationship fell. However according to Persian, Arab, and even Turkish sources as well as the famous investigative reporter Seymour Hersch who uncovered the Abu Ghraib torturing of prisoners the Mossad is still helping the Kurds and in return getting spying bases from them. It is also known that while Israel is an ally of Turkey it is still pro-Kurdish, and most Israelis identify with the Kurds problems, having gone through centuries of the same problems, and that jewish kurds in Israel have been active in promoting openly giving military help and recognition to the Kurds. The non circumstantial evidence for both sides The side that says that the Persch Merga is still being trained and equipted by Israel. 1. The Persch Merga has more then it's share of Galil Assualt Rifles which is only produced in Israel. 2. Israel gave extremely good intelligence to the US before the War in Iraq, and predicted all of the problems such as infiltrations from Syria and Iran into Iraq, and told the US good ways to stop the problems before they start. Just were did Israel get the intelligence from? The side that says it isn't 1. Israel would not want to jepordize it's relations with Turkey 2. Israel wouldn't want to anger the US further after the arms deals with China, and helping the Kurds sucede from Iraq would not exactly please the White House. Circumstantial evidence includes the way the Kurdish Persch Merga is organized in a very similar way to the IDF, the fact that the leader of Syrias Kurds was for relations with Israel, and the fact that according to the Turkish Government spokesmen Erdogan made anti-Israeli statements in order to get back at Israel when he found "Classified evidence" of Israel helping the Persch Merga. So what do you think?
I don't know anything about the relationship between Israel and the Kurds, but I find it strange that the Kurds should receive any sympathy form Israel. Nor can I at first sight see why any Israeli should identify with the Kurds. This on the background of the numerous atrocities against the Assyrians committed in the past and still being committed by Kurds. I don't know what side of the Kurds you're thinking about. Is it the Ansar al-Islam, with their links to al-Qaeda and their Taliban-like policies, or is it the KDP who blocked the Assyrians from voting last January and have made it a sport to attack their churchs. The Jewish people seems to have more in common with the Assyrians. The Assyrians are the natives of Iraq. They have a long history of suffering. But there are not many of them left and they have no state of their own, nor is it likely that they will ever have one again as they have been largely forgotten by the world.
The Jews, Kurds, and Assyrians all have a lot in common with each other, although some Kurds have been acting like thugs in terms of relations with their Assyrian Neighbors. Assyria might be formed. Unless God changes what is happening Iraq will go the way of Yugoslavia, and the Kurds don't care enough about the Assyrians to risk losing support from Israel by trying to annex their territory. The Kurds have sympathy from Israel and Israelis because they are a stateless group which has suffered through multiple genocides in the 20th century. The Israelis see the Kurds as a stateless group trying to turn regional majorities into a Kurdish Nation so the persecution will end. Such an image inevitably makes them think that they are the same (Israelis and Kurds). The fact that the Kurds in Northern Iraq/Southern Kurdistan are not anti-semites makes it all the more easier for Israelis to see Kurdish Nationalism and Zionism as the same. The Persch Merga lead by Barzani (That family has been around for a while) was the first group to gain support from Israel, other smaller groups associated with the KDP also got support.
The old pragmatism that 'my enemy's enemy is my friend'. Has Iraq been an enemy of Israel? Yes. Have the Kurds spent a fair bit of time fighting Iraq? Yes.
