Does someone have stats of the battle of Monte Cassino (causulties etc) I´ve read that there were Allied -105.000 KIA Axis -80.000 KIA http://www.ndrtv.de/doku/20040520_monte_cassino.html and another site were these listed Allied -12.000 KIA Axis -20.000 KIA http://www.dhm.de/lemo/html/wk2/kriegsv ... tecassino/ Which one is right ? Regards, Che.
i'm not an expert on the war in Italy but it seems that the first stat is to high. the only time i saw such numbers were at the large battles on the east front or at the Pacific but then again, i could be wrong IS THERE AN ITALIAN WAR EXPERT IN THE HOUSE???????
No, but I'd expect the higher figures could be the numbers of Casualties, the lower figures the number of Dead. I'll do a bit of googling later to see what I can come up with.
heres another add on  maybe the statistics on this site are correct http://www.curme.co.uk/cass.htm
well, german losses are close to the second statistic but the allied losses are three times higher than the second stat that's the problem with the internet, too much information
it was the poles who finally took it right? and didnt the Germans move the abbot and monks out and other valuables to Vatican City?
i only know that the pope was pissed because the allies hab bombared the abbay (it was the place where he went on vacation in the summer)
re Yes, it's poles who took it. About valuables: they in fact were taken by germans on the outbreak of the battle but it was not so easy for Vatican to get the valuables from the germans.
HO HO hold on it were the poles who took monte cassino but only because it was abandond by the germans because the 4th morrocan mountain divison(general sevez) of the frech corp(general juin) took the flanking mountain massiv and were pushing north so the decision was made to pull back the fallschirmjägers from monte cassino to avoid being cut of and destroyed.
Slightly belatedly - I recieved a couple of PMs from GP a while back with the following links which he thought might be useful: Monte Cassino info: http://www.mod.uk/aboutus/history/monte ... ecass7.htm Polish war graves: http://www.karenbickham.com/monte.htm
