1. Enemy at the Gates (The one sex scene included (lol)) 8/10 2. Battle of Britain 8/10 3. The Longest Day 5/10 Stalingrad 9/10, sorry but I just had to do it.
Well, of the three original choices, I'd have to rank Longest Day the best, followed by BoB. Stalingrad would have been a good choice to include in the list. That was a great movie. This past week, I also managed to correct a gross oversight, and finally saw Cross of Iron. The combat scenes in that film, IMO, were very well done. I'd also like to nominate Downfall for a special mention. Even having to read the subtitles, I thought that was a great film when I watched it the other night!!
 Did you ever realize that some of us have to watch every movie with subtitles if we do not want to suffer through the agony of dubbing? I'm glad I can understand at least some English so that I don't depend on subtitles entirely anymore... Cross of Iron, Downfall, Die Brücke, When Trumpets Fade - these are good (anti-)war movies.
Superior to what? And why? I think "The Longest Day" is tediously long, with way too many characters, and dreadful sound recording. An aged film at best. They should probably have left it in book form.
You think that's bad. I bought a DVD that had the soundtrack in Korean and the subtitles in Farsi (I think). It took me about half an hour to find the settings I wanted - the default language was unreadable and I had to try every button... But it was very good film, although not a war movie.
Look at the bright side! Movies made in your native languages are not made in Hollywood!!! That has to be worth something! No Pearl Harbors for you lot!
my best war movies 1) downfall 2) where the eagles dare 3) enemy at the gates (too bad that they had to put in a love story. those are minutes that we don't see war  ) 4) the dirty dozen (hey, all allied soldiers carry a MP40 ) 5) the devils brigade (i love the scene in which they cature that small italian town)
Here's an exhaustive list of Dutch-made war movies: 1. Soldier of Orange I haven't seen that one yet, I'm told it's pretty boring.
of course it is. the women in the occupied countries didn't see ther husbands for 4 years or more what would you do?
Not to seem rude or anything, but there is one movie that, in my mind, has been left unnoticed; SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Out of the three, though, I would have to say Enemy at the Gates was the best.[/quote]
