Surely, the other 2 switches will work something else, so you try each switch seperately, and the switch which apparently does nothing is the one you want.

    Now, I don't get this:

If the first set of bags does not have the light bag in (1 weighing) then you must weigh the second set of bags (1 weighing) - and they might not have the light bag in either. So you can have 2 weighings without even having used the light bag yet. :-?

What he means is that you divide the nine bags into three groups of three. Then you take two of these groups and put them on either side of the scales. If they are equal, you have one group of three bags left which contains the lighter one. If one group is lighter than the other, that group of three contains the lighter one. So whatever you do, after the first weighing you've narrowed the options down to three bags (which is very clever Stix).

Then you do the same thing again but with one bag on each side. Either one of them is lighter or they are of equal weight, which means you will always find the lighter one.

Sorry Ricky but incorrect, the other 2 switches have no effect whatsoever.
And even if they had the effect would have been in the shed which is sound-, air-, light-, water- and everything else tight.

So, you cannot open the door until you know which switch is for the light?

No you open the door and at that point you have to tell which switch is for the light.
No more switchflicking beyond that point.

For example if there were 2 switches you could turn one on, open the door and either see the light burning or not and tell wether it was switch number 1 or 2.

    However there are 3 switches.
Hint; take your time and think practical.

    1) Flip over switch #1.
    2) Flip over switch #2, then after a while flip it back off and quickly open the door.

If the light is burning, switch #1 operates it. If the light is off but still glowing/still warm, switch #2 operates it. If the light is off and is neither warm nor glowing, switch #3 operates it.

I'm sorry, I only know lame jokes, can't think of a good brain teaser. If someone else has one, be sure to go right ahead and post it.
