Merlin those Bren guns, are they chambered with .303 or were they converted after the war? I forget to what it was i am thinking of 7.62 NATO but I cant be certain.

I was only asking because I heard that it is hard to find working .303 brens from WWII. Good to know there are still some around.

I guess you mean Jersey the Channel Island, not New Jersey the US state...

    (just clarifying!)

    49th infantry div.

Hello Roel, they are the 49th(West Riding)Infantry Div.
Named by the Germans as the 'Butcher Bears'.
First saw action in Norway in 1940. after which they spent two years in Iceland at Reykjavic, Akureyri and Halfurdorfjord.
The original Div. badge had been the White Rose of Yorkshire but adopted the Polar Bear Badge in Iceland. The first bear badge had its head pointed downwards as if looking into water, this was later changed to the bear looking upwards with its head thrown back in defiance.
The Div. returned to England in 43 and became part of 21st.Army Group, landing in Normandy in June 44. It operated in France, Belgium and Southern Holland and took part in the final liberation of the Netherlands under the command of the 1st.Canadian Army.
The lads in the pics re-enact the Leicestershire regiment and are part of a very active and authentic group, (remember the 'Ardennes'!!! pics).
