    Hi,

A friend of mine is in a band and is trying to win a competion. Is there any chance you can vote for her band in the following link

    http://pub36.bravenet.com/vote/vote.php?usernum=3071115404

You are allowed to vote once per day per IP so if you can wander back every now and again we'd be most appreciative.

Her band is called Loki the Grump and they are very very good. Her bands catagory is the very bottom one so you can just slide the page to bottom and vote. You can vote in each catagory if you want to have a look but I have no recomendations for the other artists.

Much obliged for all your help.

How can you honestly vote for a band you've never heard and know nothing about? Completely dishonest!

FNG. don't patronise me! I've worked in clubs in and around Manchester, Duckinfield, Stalybridge, the last one I did was Manchester Airport, I've done NAAFI's, Hotels, WM clubs, Rugger clubs, Military Bases etc. in this country , Ireland and Europe.
And I still feel that voting in this way proves nothing! If they are as good as you say they will do it on their own talent.

Sorry, didn't wish to sound patronising.

As I said, they are a New York punk band and they say their sound is like that of the Stiff Little Fingers or X Ray Spex which I wouldn't have thought would be your thing. But I am often mistaken.

As for helping them unfortunatly there are a lot of very good unsigned bands out there a good percentage will never make it despite being better or the equal of those that do. A lot has to do with luck.

Bands like Pulp and Chumbawamba are classic examples of bands that work hard day in day out for years before making it big just by chance. Pulps most famous and life changing album was their 4th, Chumber's was there 5th.

    bands

I don't 'HATE' any bands, the only thing that I don't like in the entertainment industry are the 'Instant Manufactured Boy Bands', any group , rock, Pulp, Skar, Country Western etc. that do it the hard way (experience way) through clubs and pubs etc. , getting changed in a 'broom cupboard' with the old BINGO machine, being paid? out of the takings, (if any), travelling in the early hours in a battered Tranny Van, stopped by police with nothing better to do are OK by me, been there, done that, sold the 'T' shirts. Entertaining a crowd of stoned 'Jock' squaddies, knowing how to get them on your side by playing 'Flower of Scotland', having them come to you at the end of the show telling you what a great night they've had, it's a great feeling.
So, if they are any good they'll get by, if not the audience will tell em!!!
Rant over, just don't agree with a vote in these circumstances, put em all together and let a live, listening audience vote!
PS. Do they need an agent???(Did my first stage show in Libya in 47)

selling out is when you change your music soley to get more popularity and/or fortune.

For example, many artist in the 70's & 80's changed their music to disco to gain more popularity.

A good explanation. Most bands in most genres follow the times though, from pop to black metal. I think it's sad when people won't listen to a band at all anymore because they "sold out". It's a relative and subjective term, and so is music.

    Hi,

Thanks for all your help so far but the other side seem to be cheating so we'd be grateful if you could just give a few more votes?
