Hey guys Here is another exercise for you... It is mid 1940. You have using small arms to equip a defensive force your mandate is to defend a 6km wide semi urban- open country front. Using only light infantry weapons (ie small arms, light anti armour, light AA and a handful of mortars and infantry guns). You have roughly a battalion sized force. Consisting ot 500 trained regulars and 350 volunteer militia with very minimal training. Your foe is a contemporary numercially superior force, who may have air support as well as armour. You have to defend this sector. You can not allow them to enter or encircle your part of the city. The catch is you can only use weapons manufactured from the following nations... France Italy Hungary Poland Romania Japan Norway Denmark Switzerland You have to set it out in company allocations ie.. 1st Reg Company ( 100 men ) 80 Glisenti 8mm AP 50 Lebel mle 1886 8mm Rifle 10 Type 99 6.5mm Rifle 20 Type 100 8mm SMG 10 Hotchkiss mle 1909 8mm LMG 5 Madsen 8mm LMG 3 Type 96 6.5mm LMG 2 Wz 35 7.92mm Anti Tank Rifle 11th independent militia group (150 persons) etc. etc. as just quick general examples... Make sense? Have a crack.. Kym
First question - when you say 'weapons manufactured in the following nations' does that include foreign weapons made under licence? This would, for example, allow the use of the Browning Automatic Rifle, as Poland produced them. Although how Poland is gonna ship you arms in 1940 I don't know.
im gonna have me troops march to the enemy arm in arm singing 'give peace a chance'...then i will have them spike the enemy guns with wildflowers ...would that work,do you think?
RE: 1940 defense scenario Air support and armor? How can anyone win that fight with just small-arms and other low-powered junk?
Tactics, efficient leadership, use of the terrain, use of the weather, distraction, deception, adaptation. Technology is but a tiny fraction of a battle. Read Sun Tzu.
well i would defend the city center with all my men, gathering weapons and supplies from the dead enemys and hold out as long as i could until reinforcements arrive
