I've read nearly 20 books on WWII over the last year or two but most of the books have been told from the German or American perspective or covered the general scope of a battle or the war itself. I have read one book written by a Russian, "Tank Rider" by Evgeni Bessonov, but wasn't overly impressed with the book. The book was just published last year. It amazes me how books are still coming out on the war 60 years later. Anyways, anyone know of any other books written by a Russian that covers the soldier story. I don't really like to read about the overall scope of a battle but rather prefer to read about it from an individuals perspective.
I found the next best thing. "A Writer at War" by Vasily Grossman who covered the Red Army from 41-45. Should be a pretty good read, he was on the front with the soldiers the entire time. He should have some interesting stories to tell.
Theres Red Road from Stalingrad, first hand accounts of a Russian infantry men throughout the war. Pretty good book, some parts are a little to vague and he jumps from place to place sometimes. I believe Vassili Zeitsev wrote a book, but I dont know what its called.
Thanks for the input. I found a page that lists similiar books as this one so I should be good for some time. http://www.searchabook.us/isbn/184415145X/#review
