This is a top down, turn based strategy game set between 1930 and 1946 (post 45 has some AH scenarios).I just downloaded this game yesterday and have been playing it quite a bit. To put it shortly it is quite complex and difficult, has realistic unit values, and is a great amount of fun! I would recommend it to anyone on this forum - give it a try.

Best of all, it's free. Download it here: http://www.shrapnelgames.com/SPCamo/wSPWW2/6.htm

theres a modern version as well covering 45 to 2010.

It's no where near as much fun though as your tanks just get annihilated at long range by man portable AT weapons and AT helo's. Plus virtually every infantry squad has considerable AT capability at 50 yards or less so you can't just run them over MG's blazing

you need to be careful as this is not SPWaW it's SP WW2. It's by the people who made SPMBT and the engine is slightly different.

I have a question - when a vehicle is immobilized (steep slope or mud) is there any way to remobilize it again, or is it stuck for the remainder of the game?

I donno about Steel Panthers (WinSPWW2) but in SPWaW the vehicles can get remobilized but I dont thinkl you can help it, it just occurs.

all mechanical breakdowns and terrain immobilisations are random, but can be reversed in game. But again that is random and represents the crew fixing things over time

Terrain immobilisations only occur in "difficult" terrain though, like rivers, mud, and steep hills - making it not completely random. Another realistic aspect that makes me love this game! So they are basically immobilized for the remainder of the turns?

and sand, swamp and a few others.

Tanks are also far more prone to immobilisation when driven at their full speed, especially over a continuous period.

Aye, I have noticed that if one wishes to travel at full speed over long distances in the game, roads are the (duh) best choice. However, riding in convoys across roads means that the vehicles are more susceptible to other dangers - such as ambushes!
