I was highly tempted to hit satan (why? because it was an option), but then I checked the results and posts and decided against it. I'm not active in any religion, and my beliefs are quite varying. I think it is unlikely that there is some higher being like a god. I think it is likely that there is some spirituallike level science has yet to lay open (how else can we explain the placebo effect?) I hope that some form of alternate dimension(s) exist. And I know that all humans are born with both "evil" and "good" in them.
The satan-worshipper option was a joke My personal beliefs are like those of Stix... Although I have Catholic and Orthodox origins, I don't participate in any religious activity, nor do I believe in a God, but I do not dismiss the existence of God - that makes me Agnostic and not Atheist...
IIRC A placebo is something given to an individual which has no medical advantages but nevertheless they end up feeling better, sometimes they end up actually recovering quicker simply because they believe the "Medicine" is helping them.
That makes you an agnostic, literally "those who do not know". It is technically impossible to deny the existence of God on logical grounds because you can't prove it, so most people who don't believe in anything are still not athetist but agnostic. Personally, though, since there is absolutely no proof for the existence of any kind of god in the history of mankind, I'm prepared to accept the statement that no god exists on grounds of quantity of arguments rather than logical consistency. In other words, I see no reason to waste time pondering whether or not there is a higher being when nothing indicates that he does. CSP: I think what Stix means with the palcebo effect is that the mere belief that they are being cured makes people better, cannot be explained by science. It is strength through faith if nothing else.
You pretty much have it Roel, there have been thoroughly documented cases and several scientific researches conducted about this but so far no good explanation can be found. In some of the experiments people given a placebo (fake cure) actually started producing the anitdote themselves (in some cases even chemicals which the body normally CAN'T produce) yet when they where told they had gotten fakes this production stopped. Should anyone here have any idea how such things can happen I'd be happy to hear it, so I can steal their nobel prize
well, when i went to church there was a part were we all had to go forward and recieve "the bodie of christ" (the small white round cookie). religion has defenatly a placebo effect
catholic raised(mom tried}.....sceptic at 12 ,athiest at 20,agnostic at 30....when i get really old im coverting to mohamed and dieing in jihad.....(i like the 70 virgins plan)
yes cps ...2 very clean cut arab boys came to my house on bicycles ,wearing ties and backpacks...i must say their afterlife package was most intresting...lounging around a cool green garden with my 70 virgins popping grapes in my mouth....i still graphing out my blonde ,brunette ,redhead ratios...this will take some serious planning, afterall this is forever were talking about...
I am Catholic and they are not called lies, they are called heresy`s. The church doesn`t lie to us, thats almost like saying God is lying to us because the church is God. Corpral Mic von Krate
