I don't really know much about the core website, I have used it occasionally but it's a little sparse compared to others.

Also I thought the owner of the site took very little interest in it, which is presumably why it is for sale, as commented previously why certain parts of the forum software didn't work?

Isn't $2000 a bit steep for site that probably generates very little, if any, income?

Assuming the traffic mentioned is only for the website, and not the forum, a reasonable price would probably be in the area of USD 750 - 1,000 (which I'd probably offer to pay, if I had the money, as a long-term investment).

The auction doesn't include the forum, though, according to the listing.

well, what could happen if the forum would be for sale? would the buyer be in state of closing the forum, kicking us all of and redisign it?

Not from me - I only just found out from a topic in the 'Announcements' section asking the same question.

And I'm slightly miffed that we have not been informed.

I see no reason why a new buyer would make any changes to the forum. Buying a website means that the person buying it can see potential - they won't do it just to close down the website.

I am assuming / hoping much the same - any buyer will presumably leave the forum alone, as it does seem to be the best/most used thing about the site...

I'm not payin' a penny! I want this website to stay like the way it is now! You guys go ahead and try to endanger this forum's future, I'll stay away from that treacherous auction room.

That makes absolutely no sense. How would it 'endanger the forum's future' that forum members own the website, rather than a stranger?

No, the forum members do not own the website. But IF we did club together and buy it, the forum would be safe.

Question: As far as I can see, the forum is hosted separately from the website, so would any changes to the website affect the forum at all?
If we take two links off the header, all connections with the website would be severed.

That's a great idea, Ossian. Could we take two links off the header?

    so....

a, who pays for the hosting of the site? - its add free so must be paid for or on a private server

b, who has access to the code and thus adminsters this site?

just wondering because it is seperate from the panzer site that's for sale

As far as I know we are the Forum of the Panzer site, so we are therefore part of that site.

crazypit is the owner - we are trying to contact him, but we have had no response yet.

The forum is hosted on the fun-online network so whoever set up the account with them and pays for it to be ad-free is technically the owner. They will have overall admin rights on the forum. EZBoard operates the forums they host for folk in much the same way. With EZBoard it is possible to transfer the ownership/editorial rights to someone else. I would imagine that fun-online could operate much the same way. The stumbling block is if the forum is linked to the web site and it sells, the buyer will probably want the link to remain (I would) so I imagine they would request the owner rights for the forum.

The only way around that is for the site owner to specify the forum as a separate entity. Hopefully "Crazypit" and the Tanks in WWII site owner are the same. An alternative would be to set up on our own with some other forum hosting groupscompany.

    no bids, sale finished unsold.

Doesn't surprise me as I fail to under stand where anyone can make cash from such a site to get back their investment
