If I Remember Correctly or If I Recall Correctly Also: AFAIK -- As Far As I Know IMHO -- In My Humble Opinion
It is still beyond me why some people insist on writing improper English, such as * homemade acronyms, * improper or missing capitalisation, * improper or missing punctuation, * improper use of apostrophes and * placing spaces prior to e.g. periods, commas, exclamation marks and question marks.
The acronyms are probably just a product of laziness; what they mean is supposed to be perfectly obvious from the context of the sentence, and they are convenient shorthands for expressions we use often (like "as far as I know" or "if I remember correctly"). As to the other points, I completely agree with you; they are intended flaws, a concept I have never really understood at all. How can you intentionally make a mistake, when you know it is one?
acronyms These are probably a throwback to the coding on the back of WW2 letters, such as 'SWALK' (sealed with a loving kiss), Italy (I trust and love you), 'NORWICH', 'BURMA', 'CAPSTAN', 'CHINA' etc.
Norwich We didn't get the education you get!!! Then again, you can learn alot in the back-streets of Trieste, Port Said, Benghazi!!!!! (my girlfriend could not spell either!)
Roel The main problem is that they're supposed to be easy to understand, but for those who are struggling with English, they aren't as intuitive.
acronyms Quite true Christian, I entirely agree with you, I don't understand them, I do try to write correct English, even going back to correct capitals and spelling, not always successfully!
I completely agree. Also, I dislike that people hit enter in the middle of sentences like this it just doesn't make any sense. :x
Well, Merlin, everyone can make mistakes (I'll be the first to admit that I'm not perfect in that regard), but as long as they are limited to a few per post, it shouldn't create any problems. My main problem is that my space key sometimes hangs, which means that a lot of words are not separated by spaces. A tip: Download the Google toolbar, it has a build-in spell checker.
I learnt his couple days ago that google toolbar runs a program in the background of your PC thats why we got rid of it. So be careful you never know whats its doing.
Google Toolbar isn't in the system startup, but of course it'll run a program when you open a browser. You could say the same for e.g. Acrobat Reader. There is nothing dangerous about the Google Toolbar.
Puts on IT Security Guru hat... I'm inclined to agree that GTB is not "nasty" spyware but it does update without permission and, by default, report your surfing habits. There is also a fake GTB: http://www.spywareguide.com/articles/the_rogue_google_toolbar_histo_88.html Tom
Abbreviations and acronyms I can understand, after all if you were to write an essay on the USSR, would you write it out fully every time? But intentional typos, the lack of punctuation, sometimes even turning the entire post into one 500word sentence, those are the kind of things which get me in kill mode  :bang: .
