    A great shame.

Around 1/3 of my models (or more) are Airfix. I'm off to wallow in nostalgia.

Some of the early kits are apalling (MiG-15 and Blenhiem, for example), but their recent stuff is good. Besides, if you can't make a decent model from a crappy kit you aren't a good modeller! ;)

Let's hope that someone comes forward with a package that can save the brand. Too many model companies are going to the wall, for the future of the hobby to be secure for the next generation. :(

    A very great shame.

I grew up with Airfix kits- many of them were trully excellent. When I wasn't making them or looking at them I'd most likely be reading through that year's Airfix catalogue deciding what to buy next.

I was a member of the original Airfix Modeler's Club which had comedian Dick Emery as its patron - I got a welcom letter from "him" and a badge which I sold on eBay. They used to publish a page in a few kids weekly comics. Anyone remember that ?

Fingers crossed they can carry on in some form.

    :(

The major problem for Airfix was that Heller had the the moulds that Airfix used. Since Heller went into Administration a few months ago the Administrator appointed had refused to let the moulds be transferred back or used, as he counts them as an asset of Heller. Knock on effect is that Airfix can't make models and the cost of making new moulds is expensive these days. Orobably one of the big boys like Revell or Italari will take them over but there is a question ,ark on that since they would want the moulds. They may go after Heller instead, since they actually have the moulds, and Airfix could well just die.

This is a good thing for me, as Airfix is on the list upon which I have declared a modelkit-Jihad :D

The main problem is that Humbrol paint might die, which would be really bad.
