A Chronograph measures the velocity of a projectile as it travels through 2 sensors. Typically used to gauge the velocity of bullets but with the advent of paintball guns was/is used to determine their velocity. In Scotland paintball guns were almost barred for a time following a Lothians & Borders Police firearms licencing deptartment report on them that showed they could be used to fire ball bearings at velocities in excess of 500fps. The tests were carried out using chronographs and reportedly animal corpses to determine damage to bodies. They all needed to be readjusted and modified to prevent the use of ball bearings in them. Velocity tends to fall off rapidly with distance in a paintball gun due to the lower initial velocities making it more likely for injuries to occur at close range.
Like Ricky said, paintball guns are handed to you for the game only, and you have to have faith in the guys running the paintball area when it comes to muzzle velocity. Of what I've heard them say, it mostly depends on how fresh the gas reservoir is. I don't know if owning paintball guns privately is allowed here, but I doubt it, since they can in fact kill. On my first paintball even the guy who ran the place (a former Commando, or so he claimed) said he'd had such a case once and that he had grown quite a bit more cautious since.
i have heard of people being blinded in one eye because not wearing adequate eye protection ,,,,people being killed by a paintball gun? i dont see how this could be possible...even fired point blank into the eye socket it wouldnt have the density to carrie into the brain,i dont think...do you guys use .58 caliber paintballs in europe?
I'm dubious too... Unless it went into the back of the throat and suffocated them, but that's a facemask issue, not the power of the gun.
Close range shot in the eye. It is probably lethal for a variety of reasons, penetration being only one. I have no real reason to doubt that statement, though, as I pried it from him to justify his nervous and constant emphasis on safety measures.
.... i smell a rat in your paintball commando guys storie ...i think you also smell a rat ,roel...i bet he also was never a commando..care to wager?
