Operations in Greece

Have it your way then...
England is an Ally of Greece.
England starts a war against Italy.
As a result, in order to support England, Greece attacks Bulgary aiming to march to Poland which is an enemy of England.

Would you be (at your age) a most eager person to go fight that war?

Reminder: any reference to foreign countries is unoffending and has NOT any point of aggression or assault to their residents. It is just a fictional example.

 

But, Italy attacked deliberately Greece on its own, there was no German plan concerning this particular region yet...

 

You just can't believe me, can you? Are you any fascist friendly man or such? Those things I tell you are facts. They were recorded nominaly by WW2 veterans. Every one I asked has to tell me stories concerning this thing! Many Italians were not willing to fight the war their country started against Greece.

 

And i have nothing to do with ww2 veterans... Napoleon Zervas was married to a cousin of my great-grand father(lol...i can't remember her name right now!). My uncle's father as well as my cousin's father-in-law fought along with Zervas during ww2. And these are not all of them!

 

Since this topic is dedicated to military opperations in Greece during ww2 it's worthy mentioning that exactly 66 years ago,28 October 1940, the Italians invaded Greece at dawn moving through North Epirus. Before that, an Italian ambassador delivered the message of the iminent attack and asked the Greek goverment to surrender. The greek leader Metaxas answered with a "No" and thus involving Greece into the ww2. By the 7th of November 1940 the Italian attack was succesfully repelled and followed by the Greek army's counterattack which very soon entered Albania and started liberating North Epirus.

 

So a nation involves itself in a war by not surrendering without a fight ? Hmmmmm.....

 

Since the greek government was aware of an italian invasion nearly a month ago...

 

So why don't you go and ask them? You just might discover things you never knew!!! If your Georgiades texts let you of course...
And my whole family fought in the battle of Crete if you'd like to know.

That's how i see it; After losing every battle they fought who,among them, would be willing to fight??
BUT, by the time the war started they should have seen it as an adventure that would bring glory to them and to their homeland.They were supposed to march to Athens(as they saw it) not fight their way through--let alone the advantage they had over the greek army...

2) About Geordgiades; you're getting largely off topic here...Perhaps to cover-up your ignorance about other topics related to history...

3)I don't question the fact that your family fought in Crete! That's the least someone would expect from a Cretan. You, should not judge things without having in mind that other people could have fought too against the Axis!

I have the right to judge people on my own and hold my opnion about them. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion about him and it has nothing personal to do about you. Then, I was referning to my family not to take pride in them and to lessen you, but only to answer to your referance (I would never forget that you are a childe of WW2 veterans). Last but not least, I suppose you have reckoned already that we are arguing over something we both agree. I say that Italians would not have the heart to fight for their invasion, and you mention the reason for this.

PS: Sure I don't know everything, but these things I know I defend them.
