Mustang was a good plane. range and firepower in a (realitively) durable, fast and nimble craft. Personaly I like the P-38 (I don't care if it had a slow turing rate or not  ) Me-163 Komet was cool even if it wasn't that good a performer.
The one and only de Havilland Mosquito, in any variant although I prefer the glass-nosed bomber versions. Poetry in motion...
As far as fighters go Spitfire for me, Mustang always looks somehow pregnant with that radiator under the fuselage, Bf109 looks sort of boxy, Fw190A looks too stubby and the D just looks stretched. For twin fighters I've always liked the Bf110 as it looks sleek, in a way the Lightning, Beau, Uhu, Black widow, etc lack. For twin bombers, Mosquito followed closely by both Marauder and Ju88, although the wimpy gets a special nomination. For Viermots, I'm probably about the only one who actually likes the Stirling, but I prefer the famous Lancaster followed by the Superfortress overall.
For WWII? There's nothing like a P-40M. Don't like the cockpit on the N and the Merlin messed up its good looks with the L.
If we speak about desing,il prefer Yak-9,Spitfire,r eaven a bf109.USA planer was 2 ugly in wwII,major on round star cilinders in nose...
Well, the Mustang, Kittyhawk and Lightning all had inlines, and the Tigercat whilst powered by radials admittedly didn't have them in the nose but on the wing and has a distinct grace and beauty about it. Not a WWII combat type, true, but it did fly in WWII IIRC.
Why do you think they always choose the P-40 for adventure movies, like that first Spielberg movie or Sky Captain? Because it's the coolest looking propdriven aircraft ever.
Compared to a Spitfire or Tigercat? The rear fuselage on the MiG-3s always looked too short and disproportioned to me. Personal choice I guess, but I'd certainly not consider it better looking than say a P-39 or P-40.
I think that is not 2 short, but cockpit is more backed, and nose is pretty long,so u got impresion like that.
Don't know about the coolest, but the P-38 was probably the coldest. Thanks to problems with cockpit heating it was given the nice-name 'Ice Box' and it got so cold they couldn't operate above 25,000 ft in the European theater during winter.
. ME 262 , the body triangular cross section is so sweet , the whole plane is so streamlined , also I had a small scale model , loved it .
I liked the look of the 262 after making a model. Then I saw a real one - it looks much more beautiful in real life...
