this was strictly infantry versus infantry, the Scenarios were built around hills and swampy brush, I killed two amis befor I myself was killed. I went and answered natures call at this time then went to the axis camp. idid some improvemnt on my gear ate a lunch and preached a sermon and did the Vater Unser for the mostly SS troops gathered there. at the end of the 6 scenarios the score was Germans 6 allies 0. Chuck was a first timer he got blowed up by a mortar round.
farby stuff I got my head shaved rather than be shaggy, but there was an SS man there with a braided ponytail. a soldier from the Italian 3rd Alpini division which to me seemd a little out of place in western Europe. other funny things included an ami who ran out of the woods with an entire bush for camo to throw a satchel charge at the German Bunker, btw the bunker was awsome. an MG 42 inside and a Volkssturm poster on the wall made it look perfect, btw the satchel charge fell far short of its intended target. I lost my Camera in the swamp area but then found it after retracing my steps. I wasnt worried for tha camera a diposable one but I want the 27 pix that I had taken. the entire collection of reenactors all left early after the last scenarios so I made it home to hot springs by 9pm. impressive things a mine field with mines and a barbed wire barrier with real barbed wire. uberkool
fears relieved I dreaded putting on my uniform because i thot i had gained so much weight that it wouldnt fit, wrong, it fit great, and even tho I did not sleep well and had macbre nightmares the night before I would rate this battle as a huge sucess.I met lots of neat people including the guy from Mc Clards BBQ that I have been wanting to meet, Ty langhardt.
pics While you are waiting for KP's photos, have a look at latest from Saturday Nov.18th. in UK. see re-enactment pics.
alten kameraden On the way down there in Wills blazer he had the stereo playing probably a CD of deutschland über alles, then, die fahne hoch, und dann Alten Kameraden, it was a surprize as I havent heard any reenactors play this march and I am only familiar with it because I was a bandsman in the 8th Division band, and we played it all the time at weinfests und bierfests in Germany that and Preussians Gloria were pretty standard chestnuts that the kameraden really liked to hear
Alten Kameraden if you have not heard it you are missing something good. IMHO it is very good sounding teutonic muzik. especially if you like band music and march music specifically, I was raised on Sousa marches and various military and sports marches as I played in the high school marching band. hearing those melodies rythmic devices and soaring countermelodies really rubbed my ear bones the right way. not to mention my ear drum, the 4th chair trumpets got to play almost exactly what the drums were playing, dada dot dot, dada dot dot, usw. and that was me, lol. have patience I am just about to load the grenada battle pix.
