I intended to see Flag of our Fathers but it only played in one movie theather in Brussel (wtf, can you believe this, only in belgium). And since i didn't had the time to go all the way to Brussels, i just have to wait until the DVD is up for rent (in a couple of months)
Wow, that sucks, hope you´re goin´ to get it asap It started on january the 18th here in germany, however I can´t see it as well, no theatre around plays this movie. I wonder, why the´re playing boring things like "Schweinchen Willbur" =) and Deja vu, asino Royale more then nine weeks and realy good movies are forgotten, so I´ve to wait too  Regards, Che.
I'm finally getting around to reading the book. In a way, I'm glad I missed the film. I prefer book then movie! So far, the book is a good read...
'I finally had the opportunity to see "Letters From Iwo Jima" on the BIG-screen yesterday. (Saturday afternoon-matinee.) I would highly recommend it to all my friends here. I think the use of subtitles only served to instill a Japanese--Bushido Code psyche--flavor, and I found that quite appropriate. Very well done, interesting character development, and a fascinating insight into the battle from the enemies' perspective. I'm deep into Alfred Coppels' "The Burning Mountain" novel for the second-time now, and find myself saying things like: HAI, Chui-san! I must say I find the Japanese language absolutely incomprehensible. I'd much rather attempt to learn German. I understand that "Flags of Our Fathers" has now been released on DVD. I want to see that one as well. Tim
I do, too. I already knew the story told in "Flags of Our Fathers", especially the really sad fate of Ira Hayes, but I am curious to see how the story is handled in the film.
We just saw "Letters from Iwo Jima", and though it's not a bad movie I thought it was a bit too PC and the storyline was hard to get. I also expected some epic battlescenes, but with the exception of the first american attack which was stunning (or at least felt that way half an hour into the movie) the battlescenes were messy and difficult to keep track on. I missed "Flags of our Fathers" when it played in the movietheatres, but now I'm starting to think that it was just as well if it was anything like "Letters from Iwo Jima".
I saw it and was very disappointed. I hated the way that the story kept jumping back and forth from Iwo Jima to the war bond tours to the moments before the landing and so on. Telling the story in proper chronological order would have made it a much better movie, IMHO.
Come to think of it that would have made more sense. I found it difficult to follow who was who sometimes.
