i found a video of Panzer Granadiers fighting a group of T34s + infantry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fWI0uTj9rM
It's probably one of the most realistic WWII movies made, in terms of mood. The Germans really know how to cur their war movies: Amazon.com
in the beginning its quite silly ,soviet tank cmdrs are standing tall in the hatch but only 200 yards (or less ) away from dug in enemy troops ...are the soviet guys blind ,why are the soviet tankers not fireing ?,hell ,the germans could almost hit the sov cmndrs with the shmiesers at that range ,then a german at gun shoots way short ,, into the ground...at 200 yards? why do movie makers the world round always show ridiculous situations in war movies....do they know nothing about weapons or combat ? they spent alot of money in production, .. they should make at least some effort at realism...dont you think?
i watched it again ,russian tanks are covered with soviet inf too... easily swept off at twice the shown range with mausers or mg....then ,the german at gun fires FOUR times with out hiting one enemy tank at less than 100 yards ?...i hope no german ww2 veterans have too watch this insult ...then a german soldier apparently destroys a tank with a wine bottle molotov shattered on the front armor , then a wounded german soldier is apparently able to out crawl a t34 ..all this in 2 minutes,is the whole movie like this? i thought only our own hollywood pin heads made movies this wildly innacurate ,they could have shown it right and still had all the human drama... why must all war moves be so silly...
the germans are most likely too cold to think straight. the germans had improper winter clothing, so most likely they were cold. they could have had battle fatigue, and maybe a little shell shock.
They were able to improvise though, civilian clothes and clothing taken from dead or PoW Soviets. Starvation and exhaustion were a much bigger problem for the Germans at Stalingrad than freezing, although the cold probably excarebated those two problems.
don't forget morale. the german morale at that satge in the battle of stalingradwas very low. about the part when the AT gun missed, the gun is manned by a cold, hungry and tired crew so they are most likely not as accurate as could be. the crew could also be inexperenced. one more thing hind sight 20/20
all combat troops are always tired and hungry ,sometimes cold or sweltering ,but no matter how miserable ,belive me ,they can snap out of it when enemy tanks and ingfantry are comeing straight on ...no at gun crew anywhere could miss a target that close no matter how cold or tired ,they would have to be blind falling down drunk ,which they were not (after all these are german troops ,not russians ) when violent death is iminent all cold and tired and hungry is pushed aside temporarily by adrenilin..any gun crew and especially a combat tested 6th army crew could hit those tanks all day long at 20 times the range depicted...allmost all war movies suck and this one is plainly no exception ...
I've seen the entire movie. Film is about unit of combat engeneers from time when are sent from Italy to Stalingrad. After their unit was badly mauled in the city and in the sewers, this guys were sentanced to penal unit as consequence of one of them thretening a medical orderly with a gun (wanting to get help for a wounded comerade). This assigment was their chance to be reinstated as combat unit. So they were not trained AT gunners.
Do any1 looked Russian WWII movie "Звезда" (Zvezda/Star)? Great and high realistic movie about russian comandas behind enemy lines. If i remember good it was based on true event.
Heard much praise about film Zvezda but haven't seen it yet. BTW Stalingrad (this movie) is nothing special but is still much better that any hollywood produced shit.
