Space Naval RP

Real encouraging, Merlin. I was really hoping this would blossom into something big. Oh well. No offense to anybody.

 

If nothing else it went in different directions to the story I'm basing them on.

 

Yeah, but I don't see how this got boring. Oh well. Maybe it's just not worth the others' time.

I think what happened here is we were (literally) dumped in the open. I've known only a single RP to last more than a page with that kinda thing and it was more or less three people being complete goofballs. (Me, Red62, and 2 other people) It was a blast but it too died like everything else.

So for next time (or should we try to re attempt this) even a vague sense of a storyline helps. Doesn't have to be much (although the more there is the thr Rp universe the easier it is for people to get) I mean look at the Future Wars RP I did. Had the exact same thing on a different forum with a dedicated RP board and a bunch of experianced RP'ers and it ended with one of the main characters more or less bleeding out after capturing an enemy capital ship while the entire Earth fleet duked it out in space. (Come to think of it we got fairly far in our um.....rendition? of it here.)

And all that from 'Earth is nuked and Mars is under attack. And it's the last bunch of humans in the galaxy'

Um....yeah that about covers it.

A storyline, eh. This may not help restart the RP, but here's some stuff I came up with.

It's the year 2286 and the nations of the Earth all have a substantial fleet of warships. They have made contact and have signed treaties with the Aellr, the Sydnians, and the Pistonians, three alien races, and have established an "Interstellar Union"-an organization that is dedicated to keeping peace and order in the galaxy. Several teams of starships are currently exploring the galaxy in search of other sentient races. But by 2285, relations with the Aellr were beginning to deteriorate. To prevent a war, the Earth has set up a second H.Q on the planet Sydnia. Then, the convoys started to be attacked. With the plans for Space Station Antares stolen, the navies of the world are on high alert. The decision was made to modernize the USS Marlborough, the USS Argonaut, and several dreadnoughts from different navies.

Good start. A little more background infor about the alien races would help but one could easily go from there.

Here's some more:

In the year 2281 Expedition Team Gamma had arrived at Sydnia. An Earth-like planet slightly larger than Earth and inhabited by humanoids. A treaty was signed and the Sydnians joined the Union. In 2283 the same happened with the Pistonians. These two races possessed technology similar to Earth's, but had larger navies due to an earlier discovery of space travel. The Sydnians say they have been developing a prototype shield system for many decades, and the Pistonians claim to have prototype cloaking devices.

(I was wondering Ebar, do the ships in your sci-fi story have a means of lightspeed travel like warp drive or hyperdrive?)

 

My ships have a sort of artifical worm hole generator. I've tried to avoid saying much about it since any kind of FTL is pure handwavium, which I'd like to minimise as much a possible.

 

You better start changing 'hoping to' into 'I will'

 

Well I have a friend that's doing the proofreading for me, that speeding things up. Even if it does mean I get frequent absusive phone calls about my reluctance to use these things ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. Its slow going though since some chapters had to be rewriten, and a few new ones added.

 

Ebar, why don't you want to talk about the wormhole generators your ships have? By the way, here's more info:

In late 2285, the luxury liner SS Mauretania, still the biggest luxury vessel out there, was trasnported to the planet Jolo by a displacement wave of unknown origin. The Jolonians welcomed the ship at first, but after a Jolonian scout cruiser exploded around the planet, the Jolonians assumed it to be the crew of the Mauretania's doing and turned hostile, and as the ship was leaving orbit, it was attacked by a Jolonian battlecruiser, and the Mauretania barely escaped through a wormhole. Since then, all Earth vessels that approach the planet Jolo are attacked.

 

Because when your talking about FTL your talking about something that is impossible (or at the moment at least we have no idea how to do it) makes it easy to stray into the realm of techobable (which is bad). Basically I ask the reader to accept the existance of a jump drive and not ask difficult questions.

 

Don't worry, Ebar, I'll ask everyone participating in this RP (if I can actually restart it) to stay away from complicated technicalities. Here's more:

The Sydnians lost three space stations and several orbital defence platforms and ships before a fleet of Earth ships came in and helped repel the invaders. As the Jolonian/unknown ships were withdrawing, the USS Vanguard destroyed the Jolonian flagship, killing two famed Jolonian admirals and taking out one of the most powerful ships in the Jolonian fleet. Since then, activity from the Jolonians was quiet, and the cloaked ships have not been encountered yet. This was also around when Earth convoys began being raided by what were still assumedto be Aellr crafts. Could the Aellr actually be allies of the Jolonians/unknown aliens?

 

Is this enough to continue the RP from where we left off or need I provide more info?
