The Norwegian army is after three decades replacing the Heckler & Koch G3, locally known as the AG-3, with the HK416 as their standard rifle. What do you know about the HK416? Does anybody here have any experience with it?

It's a little more advanced than a few modifications.

IIRC, 5.56mm, will fire in any position, has basically the same ruggedness as the AK-47 but with greater accuracy. 'New' cooling system so it doesn't overheat as easily.

Other than the 5.56 part...I would love to have one.

(anyone heard of the new G7? 4.6mm calibre but it's on par with a M16. Future Weapons did a thing on it)

The HK 416 uses a gas-piston operating system (as do most assault rifles) rather than the gas-only M16/M4 system. This is supposed to deliver far greater reliability in adverse conditions, something for which the M4 in particular has been criticised.

In time for my army service, then! :D It was time to phase out the G3... my dad was using it in the 70s.

I believe you'll be carrying a much lighter weapon then my friend!!!!,
But seeing as it your service wouldn't they still give you the G3 and give standing troups the new H&K 416????

    also haven't H&K produced a 7.62mm Nato variant?
    The 417 I believe??

Haven't heard anyhting about that. It would make more sense though I think. Put even more on par with the AK (now it really is the same thing plus accuracy)

(Link to a clip about the MP7 whihc was the 4.6mm gun I was talking about:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjY0Us7NOns

Yes, they have. They have also made a 416/6.8 in the new 6.8mm Rem SPC calibre.

Saw the original show (did a few quite amazing thing of that episode as well. Banglore blade, EFV, NLOS-LS)

I think it's in the comments there somewhere, but would his dumping the sand out before shooting make any difference?
