Fair enough, I missed that bit scanning through and just caught the emphasis that it was being sold without engine as a static display piece (For liability reasons apparently). Still given that no guarantees are offered that the thing could ever be made airworthy a minimum of around $42,000 seems a lot to pay for what could just be essentially a huge model kit... (Heh, heh, just imagining the look on the missus face if I tried to hang that one from the cieling with some string! )
Sory Simon but $42,000 for an airworthy spit is very very very cheap (even if it's a kit)!!! You can buy kitcars wich are more expensive than that and those can't even fly.... A friend of mine made a high performance Super 7 and he had spend about 15,000 Euro's (or something around $20,000) on it and altough a beauty and very fast it won't outperform a Spit
if it was airwothy and would take a lycoming 6 cyl it wouldnt be so bad ..if you had to put in a merlin or packard v12 it would cost about 400 bucks an hour to fly it and you cant take a lady freind for a ride and if your not a very skilled and high time pilot it would very likely kill you.....fighter planes are not forgiveing machines ..
Except that it's not airworthy, there's not even any guarantees that it ever will be airworthy. It's not even completed (No engine and some parts missing) so the final cost is going to be higher in any case.
There is probably a rich SOB somewhere that has enough money to get it done...but on the other hand it won't be the real deal
i got a freind who paid 43 grand for a damn pick up truck..it gets about 11 miles to the gallon and it will not fly...
