I was wondering if some of you German experts could help me out with something. I'm trying to figure out the units that the 9th US inf, specifically their 47th Rgt., was fighting around the time of Sept. 1 through 15th, 1944. Around this time they were crossing the Meuse and racing towards the Sieg. line. The went through Phillipeville, Blaimore, St. Balaise, Eupen, Roetgen and Zweifall. I've learned that one of these towns had been occupied by SS and that the 47th faced lots of Nebelwerfer and at Blaimont, there was german armor. So, if any of this helps determine the German units in the area, please let me know.

Ive read that the SS was in or near St Balaise and I think it was either LSSAH or Das Reich. Also They were in or near Roetgen. As for Heer units--I dont know unless I can get some of my books to look through--which are still in s-t-o-r-a-g-e- ugggg. Anyway--im sure the SS unit was LSSAH--not sure.

The actions around St Balaise I would have to say wouldv'e been met by the Das Reich division.

Thanks fellas - the books I have are American unit history books, and don't specifically mention German units.

After the 2nd Ss Pz and the 9ths SS Pz opened the cauldron from Falaise they both retreated together towards the Seine where they split up. Das Reich moved towards Rouen ti re-group it's meagre forces. Do these towns lie in that proximity ?

An Italian military historian in Toscana has contacted me seeking pointers to information on the 334th Infantry Division and the 4th Parachute Division. He is particularly concerned with the September 1944 actions on the Gothic Line.

    Thank you for any assists.

I am trying to learn who commanded the German 34th Infantry Division on 2 May 45 when it surrendered to the American 34th Infantry Division in northwestern Italy.

I vaguely remember somewhere online a list showing two names in the latter stages of the war, but no specific dates were given.

Order of Battle information for the Division would also be appreciated.

    Thank you for any assists.

Does anyone know where I can get information on the numbers used in the after action reports? Some of the places are not named and there is only a number. Would love to find maps of the area for that time so that I could follow the reports more closely. Thanks.
